How we collect, use and protect information about families who use KidsLingua, written to be clear for parents.
Effective date: 21 October 2026
The short version
- Accounts are created and managed by a parent or guardian, not by children.
- We collect only what we need to run KidsLingua, teach your child and keep the service safe.
- We never sell personal information, never show children advertising, and never use children's information for behavioural advertising.
- Analytics and live chat on our website stay off unless you allow them.
- You can see, correct, download or delete your family's information at any time.
1. Who we are
KidsLingua is a product of KidsLingua.IO Inc. (“KidsLingua”, “we”, “us”), a company incorporated in the State of Delaware, United States, with its registered address at 262 Chapman Rd, Ste 240, Newark, DE 19702, United States. We provide a language-learning service for children, including the website at kidslingua.io, the KidsLingua web platform and mobile apps, and live lessons with teachers (together, the “Service”). KidsLingua.IO Inc. is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy.
This policy applies to parents and guardians, to the children who use the Service with their permission, and to visitors to our website. Teachers and content contributors who work with us receive a separate privacy notice.
2. Children's privacy
KidsLingua is designed for children, so protecting their privacy comes first in everything we build.
- Parents are in charge. Only an adult aged 18 or over can create an account. The parent or guardian adds each child as a learner profile and gives consent for us to collect the child's information as described here.
- We collect as little as possible about children: a first name or nickname, an avatar, an age or year group, the languages they are learning and their learning progress. We do not ask children for their email address, phone number, home address or photos.
- No ads, no selling, no profiling for marketing. We do not show advertising to children, do not sell or rent children's information, and do not use it to build advertising profiles.
- No public sharing. Children cannot post content publicly or message other users through the Service.
- Parental rights. A parent or guardian can review the information we hold about their child, ask us to correct or delete it, and withdraw consent to further collection at any time by contacting info@kidslingua.io. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide the Service to that child.
If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child without verified parental consent, we will delete it promptly. If you believe this has happened, please contact us at info@kidslingua.io.
3. Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details: the parent or guardian's name, email address, password (stored in encrypted form), country and preferred language.
- Learner profiles: the information about each child listed in section 2.
- Live lesson bookings: the language, level, chosen teacher, lesson times and any notes you add for the teacher.
- Payments: when you pay for live lessons, our payment provider (Stripe) collects your card or payment details directly. We receive only a confirmation, the amount, and limited details such as the card type and last four digits. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Messages: anything you send us through our contact form, email, live chat or support channels.
- Newsletter and launch alerts: your email address and the updates you asked for.
Information created when you use the Service
- Learning activity: lessons started and completed, quiz and game results, badges, streaks and time spent learning, so we can track progress and show it to you.
- Voice practice: some activities let a child record themselves to practise pronunciation. These recordings are used only to give pronunciation feedback and are not used for any other purpose.
- Live lessons: lessons take place by video in real time. We do not record live lessons. If we ever want to record one, for example for quality or safeguarding, we will ask for your permission first.
- Device and usage information: device type, operating system, app version, browser, IP address and crash reports, used to keep the Service working and secure. If you allow notifications on a mobile device, we store a notification token so we can send reminders.
Information from our website
When you visit kidslingua.io we receive basic technical information (such as your browser, device and the pages you visit). With your permission, we also use Google Analytics and the Tawk.to live chat, which use cookies. See section 7.
4. How we use information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage accounts and learner profiles;
- provide lessons, games and stories, save progress and personalise learning to your child's level;
- arrange live lessons, connect learners with teachers, and take payment for them;
- send service messages such as booking confirmations, reminders, receipts and important changes;
- send newsletters and launch alerts, only if you asked for them (you can unsubscribe at any time);
- answer questions and provide support;
- keep the Service safe and secure, prevent misuse and protect children;
- understand how the Service is used so we can improve it, using aggregated or de-identified information wherever possible;
- meet our legal, accounting and regulatory obligations.
We do not use children's information to train general-purpose artificial intelligence models, and we do not make decisions about children based solely on automated processing that have legal or similarly significant effects.
5. Our legal bases
We follow the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and other US privacy laws that apply to us. Where data protection laws such as the UK or EU GDPR or Nigeria's Data Protection Act 2023 apply, we rely on:
- Contract: to provide the Service you have signed up for, including live lessons you book and pay for.
- Consent: for children's information (given by the parent or guardian), newsletters, website analytics, live chat and notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: to keep the Service secure, prevent fraud and improve our product, balanced against your rights and with extra care where children are involved.
- Legal obligation: to keep financial records and respond to lawful requests.
6. Who we share information with
We share personal information only with organisations that help us run the Service, under contracts that require them to protect it and use it only on our instructions:
| Provider | What they do for us |
|---|---|
| Cloud hosting providers | Store and run the Service securely |
| Stripe | Process payments for live lessons |
| Video lesson provider | Deliver live video lessons |
| Google Firebase | Send app notifications you have allowed |
| Resend | Deliver emails, such as replies and newsletters |
| Google Analytics | Website analytics, only with your consent |
| Tawk.to | Website live chat, only with your consent |
Teachers see only what they need to teach a lesson: the child's first name or nickname, age or year group, language level and any notes you choose to share.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of a child or anyone else, or as part of a merger or sale of our business, in which case this policy will continue to apply to your information. We never sell personal information.

8. International transfers
KidsLingua.IO Inc. is based in the United States and we serve families around the world, so your information may be processed in countries other than your own, including the United States, Nigeria, the United Kingdom and the European Union. When we transfer personal information internationally, we use appropriate safeguards required by law, such as standard contractual clauses, and we only work with providers that protect information to a high standard.

10. How we protect information
We protect information with encryption in transit (HTTPS) and at rest, access controls so only staff who need information can see it, secure password storage, and regular reviews of our systems and providers. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password. If a security incident affects your information, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
11. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you have the right to:
- access the personal information we hold about you or your child;
- correct information that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your information or your child's information;
- receive a copy of your information in a portable format;
- object to or restrict certain uses of your information;
- withdraw consent at any time, without affecting anything we did before you withdrew it.
You can update most account and learner details yourself in the KidsLingua platform. For anything else, email info@kidslingua.io. We will respond within one month (or sooner where the law requires) and may need to confirm your identity first. Making a request is free.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, please tell us so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority, such as the Nigeria Data Protection Commission, the UK Information Commissioner's Office, your local EU supervisory authority, or the US Federal Trade Commission.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the effective date at the top, and if the changes are significant, especially where they affect children's information, we will tell you by email or in the Service before they take effect and, where required, ask for your consent again.
